Family Memories

The following information was provided by Vernon's great Granddaughter (also Edna May FitzSimons (nee Langdon) granddaughter).

Vernon had a street named after him in Spotswood as he built a lot of houses in Spotswood.
He was near sighted and nearly ran over a pedestrian (my Grandmother was terrified of cars and driving as a result).  Vernon went to court for injuring a pedestrian.

He also got in trouble for illegally hooking up electricity.

The Argus ( Melbourne. Vic ) Wed 26 Jan 1938
ELECTRIC POWER WRONGLY USED
Vernon Langdon, builder and contractor, of Stephenson street, West Spotswood, appeared at the Williamstown Court yesterday charged with having wilfully used electricity contrary to the Electric Light and Power Act.

Evidence was given that extra wires were found leading from the service main past the meter into Langdon's house. Langdon was said to have admitted that he had been Illegally using current for about three months.

Langdon denied the charge and said In an unsworn statement that two officers of the council had openly stated that they Intended to "get" him.

Langdon was convicted and fined £5, in default imprisonment for a month, with £3/5/6 costs.

Vernon and Edith's son known as Mark burnt down the family home in Stephenson Street Spotswood.

Edith lived in a nursing home in Regent (near Reservoir Vic) when she was elderly.
